The mixture is calcined in a dry roaster to change the crystal form of the lithopone, and then acid-washed with sulfuric acid at a temperature of 80 °C. Finally, it is washed with water, reinforced with coloring agent, pressure filtration, drying and milling.

In addition to controlling the reaction conditions, it is also important to carefully monitor the precipitation process to ensure that the desired precipitation percentage is achieved. Earlier this year, a bill was introduced in the California legislature to ban the manufacture, sale and distribution of foods in the state containing titanium dioxide, along with four other harmful food chemicals. 

The other form in which titanium dioxide is produced is as an ultrafine (nanomaterial) product. This form is selected when different properties, such as transparency and maximum ultraviolet light absorption, are needed, such as in cosmetic sunscreens.
