The main lip is the most critical component of the seal.
Its sealing edge comes in full contact with the shaft surface in order to provide excellent sealing performance.
(See Figure 3.)A final step in preparation for assembly is to lubricate the shaft, sealing lip and bore with sufficient oil. This will allow the oil seal to slide more easily over the shaft and prevent dry running after the first rotation. Always use oil or grease that is compatible with the oil seal material. In addition, when sliding over the shaft, the oil seal comes into contact with the keyway, threads and grooves. By taping or covering the shaft at the location of these irregularities with oil-soaked paper, the oil seal can be mounted without damage to the sealing lip.

1. The oil seal consists of a metal ring as the inner skeleton which provides the structural stability to the oil seal.
The numbers 30-50-10 indicate the dimensions of the oil seal, specifically its inner diameter, outer diameter, and height. This measurement ensures that the oil seal fits perfectly into the designated space and effectively seals off any potential leaks.
What are Oil Seals and how should they be ordered?
High Mileage Motor Oil
High mileage oil addresses specific weaknesses in your engine that are related to old age. It’s like a healing ointment for overused engine parts.
Smear a little gasket sealant round the cover flange and fit the new gasket to it. Make sure it is flat and straight.

In this guide, we will dwell deeply on oil seals and discuss everything that you need to know, such as what it is, how it works, why it fails sometimes, materials used in making it, factors to consider in choosing the right one for your application, and so on.
An oil seal is designed to perform three major functions: to prevent lubricants from leaking outside the seal even under high pressure, to act as a barrier to retain the lubricating oil, and to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the unit.
